Pet Fact #11

Pet Fact #11: When your dog wags its tail, it could be conveying more than just joy because different tail wags have different meanings!

Different breeds have natural “resting positions” for their tails, but oftentimes your dog’s tail position could convey:

  • Joy: Tail in a neutral position with a steady to rapid wag.
  • Curiosity: Tail straight out and still.
  • Alert and Unsure: Tail raised with a slight wag.
  • Aggression: Tail held high and vertical with a still or slight wag. (Yes, even a dog wagging its tail can feel afraid and therefore could bite.)

Knowing your pet will help you understand their tail wags and mood shifts. Showing them a little love and attention can go a long way to steady their nerves and keep them happy!
